L4 BK16 Ni Haixia and the Modern Breakthrough in Chinese Medicine

1 min read

Ni Haixia taught the Huangdi Neijing, Shang Han Lun and Jin Gui Yao Lue, practised Chinese medicine in the United States, and became known for his forceful defence of classical Chinese medicine.

To his admirers, he helped revive interest in ancient medical traditions and classical formulas. To his critics, some of his medical claims required much stronger evidence.

Compassion and Thunder neither presents Ni as a miracle doctor nor dismisses him because of controversy. Through his life, clinical thinking and teaching, the book explores a larger question: how can an ancient medical tradition explain, test and redefine itself in the modern world?

It is both the story of an unconventional Chinese medicine practitioner and an exploration of Chinese medicine's continuing encounter with modern medicine.
